You can really see his fur coming back — around his hindquarters especially, it filled in enough that I'm not worried anymore. I can see the signs of recovery, so we're going to keep going.
Leon's 3 biggest struggles
1. Fur that wouldn't grow back
Since around June last year, the fur behind his neck had thinned out, and the hair around his bottom stopped coming back entirely. Bare skin where his fluffy coat used to be.
2. It wasn't the harness
We wondered if his harness had been rubbing the back of his neck, so we switched to a soft, round-cord harness. But no matter what we tried, the new fur still wouldn't grow in.
3. The diagnosis: Alopecia X
In April, during a heartworm check, our vet suggested testing for hypothyroidism. The blood work came back completely normal — and we were told it was what's commonly called "Pom baldness," Alopecia X.
